Ling Qi Dao Healer Certification
Level I Foundations of Energy Healing
The first level certification gives a practitioner everything she needs to know in order to start cultivating her own health as well as benefiting others. This training is appropriate for people who already have or are interested in starting a healing practice - doctors, massage therapists, chiropractors, etc. - and also very appropriate for individuals who simply wish to empower their own lives and give comfort to family and friends. Each module is about 14 hours giving the student over 100 hours of training. Each course is offered on a sliding scale donation of $108 - $180 per module.
Ling Qi Dao Reiki Healing - Shoden level
In this initial level of training we establish the foundations of safe and effective energetic healing through traditional Japanese Reiki. Students will first be taught practices for working on themselves - meditation, energy direction, and breathing. With the foundation in personal practice, we can then move into exploring healing through laying on of hands, working in the energetic fields, energetic techniques for healing the mind, and exercises for developing the intuition. The concept of energetic transmission is explained, and students receive empowerment in the Usui Reiki lineage. Much emphasis is placed on hands on experience. Usui Reiki is chosen as the first class in order to solidly ground the practitioner in the ways of connecting to Universal energy as the source of healing.
No Prerequisite
Ling Qi Dao Qigong Energy Healing
This course gives the student fundamental training in understanding the nature of Qi - the vital energy of the body - and how to work with it consciously. Exercises are taught to develop the sensitivity and emitting power of the palms, and sense the external energy fields. Students will learn the difference between tonifying and dispersing therapy and methods for each. Practices are taught to cleanse the practitioners field, develop skill in Qi emission, and tonify ones own energy body. Various hand techniques will be learned for directing the Qi of a client. Applications will be discussed regarding using qigong therapy to heal internal organs, meridians, and chakra centers.
No Prerequisite
Ling Qi An Mo - Energetic Massage
An Mo is Chinese for “press & rub” and refers to therapeutic massage manipulations. It can be distinguished from modern “Tui Na” which places more emphasis on bonesetting and healing specific diseases. An Mo Gong works more with the balance of the bodies subtle energy. In classical qigong teachings, massage on the tissue is used in addition to work within the energetic fields in order to harmonize the energy and physical body. Students will learn various hand manipulations and their energetic effects practicing both on ones self and on a partner. These techniques are drawn from the massage traditions of China and Japan. The unique aspect of the Ling Qi An Mo is the awareness of the qi as one practices allowing one to assess the subtle body and treat imbalances at the same time. This workshop is applicable for massage therapists, acupuncturists, and energy healers wishing to expand their ability to facilitate the energy by work directly on the physical body, as well as those with no experience of bodywork.
No Prerequisite, Qi Healing and Reiki I are recommended.
Daoist Inner Alchemy
The practice of the “Small Heavenly Circulation” or the Microcosmic Orbit is a fundamental Daoist practice to learn energy direction and to refine the subtle forces of the energetic body. This course starts with the concept of the Dan Tien - the alchemical cauldron within our bodies - and how to cultivate energy there. We then explore point-by-point the opening of the Governing and Conception Vessels - which direct all the Yin and Yang energies of the body. We will also learn the “Six Sound Secret” which is a movement and sound meditation designed to cleanse the internal organs of stagnant energy. This class is foundational for students interested in Taijiquan, Energetic Healing, or advanced Daoist practice; as it forms the energetic basis for all of those disciplines.
No prerequisite
Medical Qigong - Healing Movement
Medical Qigong is healing movement exercise based on the principles and channels of ancient Chinese Medicine. Qigong literally means to work with the vital healing energy. This workshop explores the feelings and actions of Qi in the body. Healing practices which facilitate the flow of energy in the meridians and organs of the body are shown and practiced. We will review the pathways of the 12 main meridians in the body, and the functions of the 5 major organs of Chinese medicine. Discussion is included on prescribing qigong exercise for specific conditions, utilizing tonification and dispersion, and developing and maintaining personal practice. Specific practices will include detailed instruction on the Eight Section Brocade, The Six Healing Sounds, Meridian self massage, tonifying the three Dan Tiens, Standing meditation, and specific prescriptions for the five Yin organs.
No Prerequisite
Chinese Energy Medicine
This course teaches the fundamental concepts of Chinese Medicine that one needs to begin effectively practicing Qi healing. All of these concepts will be taught experientially through classical Daoist meditation practice and through group discussion. Students will learn to experience Qi, Yin and Yang, the Five Phases, the 12 meridian cycle, functions of the major Yin and Yang organs, and the “Eight Principles” theory of disease. Basic assessment skills will also be introduced through the “Four Pillars” method.
Prerequisite - Qigong Healing, equivalent training, or previous training in Chinese Medicine
Ling Qi Acupressure and Point Location
Acupressure is one aspect of the classical trainings of Tui Na and An Mo. This course will focus on introducing the location of the 12 major organ meridians and some important points. Acupressure techniques will be taught for working with the energy through specific points on the body. Students will learn about the nature of ‘Source’ points, ‘Luo’ points, Entry/Exit points, and ‘Accumulation points’. This knowledge forms the foundation for advanced qi healing using the meridian pathways, as well as understanding the effects of Qigong movement exercises.
No prerequisite - recommended Chinese Energy Medicine
Anatomy and Physiology
The study of the physical body is essential to the practice of healing. In these two classes students will come into greater relationship with their bodies through exploring the structures and functions of the various tissues of the physical form. In anatomy, we will place emphasis on the functional relationships of the parts - and special attention on how to heal and avoid injuries. Physiology will bring awareness to the proper function of the various systems of the body - digestive, endocrine (hormonal), circulatory, etc - and how to regulate these functions through holistic health practice.
This class is highly recommended for everyone inhabiting a body! It’s aim is to enlighten our experience of physical existence and illuminate the places where we can be safeguarding and promoting our health every day.
No prerequisite
Clinical Practice
This module is offered both in ongoing, and weekend workshop formats. The essence of this study is in clinical practice. In this course, students will put everything that they have learned to work on clients with actual issues they need addressed, working under supervision. The second half of a class day will be devoted to clinical “rounds” - sharing one’s experiences during the healing treatment and discussing possible refinements to technique.
In addition to supervised practice, students are required to find a person to perform and ongoing case-study. This person should have an identifiable condition that one can work on with energetic healing. Students will learn to document their results and experience the long-term effects of this type of healing.
Prerequisite - All Level I courses
Level II - Advanced Energy Healing
The second level of Ling Qi Dao training is for those students who wish to take their healing and spiritual practice to the next level. Growing from the foundations formed in the first level, ones experience of subtle energy is expanded beyond one’s own physical body. Clinical applications become more specific and powerful. Above all, the connection to Universal Energy is continually emphasized as the basis of all our technical skill.
Ling Qi Dao Reiki Healing - Okuden level
Building upon the foundations of the first level, the second level of the Usui system begins bringing us into subtler levels of awareness. We begin by expanding our experience of meditation by deepening our practice to include self-purification, mindfulness training, and affirmation. Our healing practice also expands into the realms of distant healing, advanced healing of the mental/emotional body, and using mantras and symbols in healing. We also explore Ki (qi) movement practices to open the body and energy field, expand the intuition, and unite with the Universal Qi. At this level our mediation begins generating Insight which we can use to explore deep questions, and help us to gain clarity on our Paths and make powerful choices. The main feature of this stage of training is the idea of “distance” healing, or healing beyond space and time. Various theories and methods of distance healing will be explored.
Prerequisite - Reiki I, recommended Qigong Healing I
Ling Qi Dao Qigong Healing - Level II
This course expands on the basic concepts learned in the foundational level. Students will learn advanced techniques in treating acupoints, meridians, internal organs, and energetic centers. Assessment skills will be sharpened through the practice of Nei Guan (internal viewing) and developing the ability to see energetic fields. Students will explore using the concepts studied in Chinese Medical theory to directly work with the energy body of a client. Students will study various hand mudras for directing energy, as well as many healing protocols.
Prerequisite - Reiki I, Qigong Healing I, Chinese Medicine I, Acupressure/Point Location
Assessing the Energetic Body
This course covers some of the main assessment methods developed by classical Chinese Medicine. We will cover the ‘Four Pillars’ in greater detail, focusing on the spiritual-intuitive aspects of each as well as the common, physical applications. This course will explore the Back Associated points, Front Alarm Points, Pulse assessment, Tongue assessment, and ideas on putting it all together into a treatment picture.
This course can be very beneficial for acupuncturists and body workers who would like to explore the potential intuitive direction in their diagnostic skill.
Prerequisites - Qigong Healing I, Chinese Medicine I
Chinese Energetic Medicine - Part II
This course continues the exploration of classical Chinese Medicine and it’s fundamental concepts. We will focus specifically on pathologies of the internal organ systems and their treatments. Emphasis will again be placed on experiencing these concepts energetically and relating them to ones own life as well as clinical experience. Students will learn nutrition, herbs, point combinations, and dao yin for the various pathologies we encounter.
Prerequisites - Qigong Healing I, Chinese Medicine I, Acupressure/Point Location, Healing Movement or equivalent
Daoist Inner Alchemy - Part II
Classically, after one gains skill with the ‘Microcosmic Orbit’ one learns the ‘Macrocosmic Circulation’. In this course, we begin to explore moving energy through the other major channels of the body, as well as connecting with the energies of nature and the environment (sun, moon, stars, trees, earth, etc.). Awareness of the inner organs and their spiritual faculties is increased. This course also includes information on developing compassion and regulating sexual energy.
Prerequisites - Inner Alchemy I, recommended - Chinese Medicine I
Ling Qi An Mo II
Building on the foundation of AnMo level I, and the Chinese and Western anatomy one has learned, this course offers specific techniques for tonifying and dispersing the channels and structures of the body. Students will learn protocols to cultivate proper body and energy usage while moving the energy of a recipient. We will learn advanced joint mobilizations and tissue releases done on the massage table or the floor.
Prerequisites - Qigong Healing I, Chinese Medicine I, AnMo I, Reiki I, Anatomy and Physiology
Advanced Movement Training
For the second level of certification, students are required to document at least twelve hours of healing movement instruction beyond that already learned in level one. Subjects might include: Internal Martial Arts (especially Taijiquan), Yoga, other styles of Qigong, or traditional martial arts training. Workshops and classes will be offered in these various disciplines, or students can be approved to work with other instructors/systems. This level rounds out a practitioners training by giving him the ability to study and integrate information from other styles of training.
Prerequisites - All Level I courses
Esoteric Anatomy and the Seven Major Chakras
This workshop is an exploration of the chakra system. The chakras are vortices of energy within the energy field that have associations with various aspects of the body and mind. This course starts with a theoretical and practical exploration of the chakra system - exploring the classical associations and peoples experiences. We then move directly into gaining experiential knowledge of these centers. Students will be taught exercises to perceive and open their own chakra centers, utilize the consciousness of each center to empower their lives. We then move on into hands-on energetic healing to open each center. Finally we will explore yoga postures, life practices, and meditations to help heal and empower each center. The chakra model is a metaphor for the phases of spiritual development. As we study this ladder of consciousness, students gain keys to understanding the transformations that occur through spiritual/energetic practice.
No Prerequisite. Recommended - Reiki I, Qigong Healing I, Inner Alchemy
Clinical Practice
This course follows the same format as in the foundation level.
Prerequisites - All Level I & II courses
Advanced Apprenticeship
For those students who have completed the first two levels and show great dedication it is possible to engage in an advanced apprenticeship. Part of this training involves the “Master” level training of Usui Reiki, assisting in Ling Qi Dao workshops, and advanced clinical practice. Details can be discussed with interested individuals.
Other Training
Taijiquan - Moving Meditation
Taijiquan is originally designed as a martial art, but has been found to be very efficient at cultivating the health, balance, and peace of it’s practitioners. Taiji can train one to become more aware of the energy flowing in ones own body and in the environmnet all around. Taijiquan is offered at many levels, including short and long form training, Yang and Chen style Taiji sets, pushing hands, and weapons practice.
Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu
Shaolin Kung Fu is a Yogic art designed by monks as a “body practice” to train their Zen meditation through movement. Each movement studied has a martial application as well as an effect upon the spiritual/energetic body. Shaolin Kung Fu is based around a repertoire of traditional forms - upon sufficient mastery the student can graduate into advanced practice of fighting techniques, sparring, and weapons training. This training is a powerful way to develop a strong spirit within a strong body. Students will notice increase in mental acuity, coordination, and discipline, as well as a deeper calm and clarity of mind conducive to meditation.
Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga was discovered many millennia ago by Indian spiritual practitioners as an aid to their meditation practice. Through the practice of Asana (postures) we facilitate opening of the energy body, and release of stuck thought patterns. The spine becomes longer and more supple, the muscles gain tone and flexibility. We learn to breathe through challenging feelings and steady ourselves firmly within the body. The yoga taught is drawn from many traditional lineages and particularly influenced by the Iyengar, Anusara, and Ashtanga systems.
Prana Yoga
In addition to classical Indian influenced ways of teaching, there are also many systems of strengthening and stretching the physical body developed in China and Japan. I call these classes “prana” yoga because of the emphasis on the energy body. The coursework is based largely in practices developed by Masunaga, Shizuto to stretch the meridian channels of the body. Various asanas are explored in sequence or meridian energy flow to give the yogi ability to regulate his or her own energy system - like performing qigong healing or acupressure on ones self through movement.
Meditation
Through meditation we learn to calm and focus our minds. Beginning to catch glimpses of the True Nature that abides beneath our normal flurry of thoughts allows us greater insight into how to face the questions and challenges of our lives. Meditation is taught through ongoing dharma talks, as well as intensive or weekly workshops. We begin by covering basic calming and relaxing techniques, concentration, and insight practice. Through the students practice, new questions and insights are generated which help to direct the flow of the course. The training is largely sourced from the literature of Buddhism and Daoism, but since spiritual experience is beyond the limits of religion, vocabulary from all spiritual traditions is incorporated.
The Yoga of Sexual Energy
Classical Daoist and Tantric teachings realize that sexual energy is a powerful force in our lives. If we do not learn to know this energy intimately (pun intended) it can lead us around unconsciously, or we can squander one of the most potent forces available to us. This course explores the dynamics of sexual energy and its relation to spiritual practice. Meditations and exercises are taught to transform this energy into spiritual fuel. Daoist and Tantric techniques will be shared for working with ones own sexual force in addition to working with a partner.
Initially the focus is on learning the pathways and nature of the energetic system. Intermediate and advanced training includes the use of sexual positions, expanding orgasmic capability, troubleshooting sexual challenges, acupressure, and relationship practice.
Yoga Massage
These courses are an exploration of floor based bodywork influenced by the systems of Japan and Thailand. Students learn how to use their hands, feet, knees, elbows, knuckles, and fingers to bring relief and comfort to another. These courses are highly recommended for body workers, but are designed so that anyone can join in and benefit. They are an excellent adjunct to the Ling Qi Dao healers certification where one can study the theories of Asian medicine and the location of meridian channels and points. These classes, though, do not require deep knowledge of anatomy or Asian medical theory. Instead, they help to train one to tap into the innate, intuitive perception which is our birthright. We can learn to reawaken the bodies knowledge of how to stretch, press, rub, and move another to facilitate healing and clarity.
Wholistic Nutrition
Eating food and sleep are the two most influential forms of energy practice we engage in. Learning to use food as medicine for the body can profoundly influence every aspect of ones life. These courses will cover basic ideas about Macro-Nutrients - Protein, Carbohydrates, and Fats; and Micro-Nutrients - Vitamins, Minerals, and Flavanoids. Discussion is included about the ethics and safety of buying organic, local, or conventionally grown foods. Asian medical concepts of the energetics of specific foods and herbs will be included, enabling one to treat the bodies needs through practice we all already engage in - mealtime practice.
